Corridor of the Asylum

by Bill DeVoe | The Van Gogh Sessions

Corridor in the Asylum – My goal here was to capture the emptiness that Van Gogh must have sometimes felt as he wandered through the echoing halls of the Saint-Remy Asylum. The multiple key changes are meant to portray the grief, depression, and sadness of the inhabitants of each room. There is no clear melody that can be latched-on to just as there is no clear rhythm.  It’s amazing to think that while confined in an asylum Van Gogh would create some of his most famous work; The Starry Night, and The Irises, to name a few.
