Starry Night Over The Rhone

by Bill DeVoe | The Van Gogh Sessions

Starry Night Over the Rhone – Here, Van Gogh captures the magic of the stars and lights reflecting on the Rhone River. The beauty of this painting to me is the brushwork. It is so defined that you can probably count how many strokes it took Van Gogh to create it. The blue-to-black transitions give the painting incredible depth and act as a mirror to the gaslights that border the river. I wanted my composition to reflect the serenity of the painting more than anything else; the quiet night, the idle boats and the lovers as they stroll along the bank and where my music may fall short, one need only regard the painting to find it.
