Reminiscence of Brabant

by Bill DeVoe | The Van Gogh Sessions

Reminiscence of Brabant – I wanted to combine the feel of a tarantella with a playful melody to depict some of the rare, good days Van Gogh had as a youth while living in Brabant. The refrain on the other hand is intended to represent Van Gogh at the time he painted this particular piece – he was not in Brabant, but rather conjuring memories of it while a patient the Saint-Remy Asylum. The land and sky are barely discernable – both layered in thick green hues but there is a feeling of spring to me, of optimism which from all accounts was rare for Van Gogh throughout his entire life.
